📍 Unseasonably Warm Temperatures Across B.C.

British Columbia saw an unusual spike in temperatures over the weekend, with multiple communities setting or matching daily heat records.

According to Environment Canada, areas like Squamish reached around 24°C, while Trail hit 23°C, surpassing previous records for early April.

Other locations, including Bella Bella and Creston, also matched historical highs for this time of year.

☀️ What Caused the Sudden Warm Weather?

The warm conditions were driven by a stable high-pressure system, bringing clear skies and above-average temperatures across much of the province.

This type of early-season warmth is not uncommon in spring, but the extent of record-breaking temperatures highlights how quickly conditions can shift in B.C.’s climate.

💨 Strong Winds Expected Along Southern Coast

As the warm spell fades, a cold front is moving into the region — bringing powerful winds to Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, warning that wind gusts could reach up to 70 km/h, particularly from Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning.

Residents are being advised to prepare for:

  • Possible power outages
  • Travel delays
  • Falling tree branches or debris

🌨️ Mixed Weather Across the Province

While the southern coast deals with strong winds, other parts of B.C. are experiencing very different conditions.

Northern regions, including the Peace area, are expected to see snowfall between 10 to 20 centimetres, showing the wide range of weather patterns across the province.

⚠️ What This Means for Residents

The sudden shift from warm temperatures to windy and unsettled conditions is a reminder of how quickly spring weather can change in British Columbia.

Officials recommend staying updated on weather alerts and securing outdoor items as winds pick up.
