Cooling centres and heat relief locations across Surrey, White Rock, and Delta are open this week as temperatures hit 30°C. With heat alerts issued by the Homelessness Services Association of B.C., residents are urged to stay hydrated and seek shelter during peak sun hours.
Environment Canada is forecasting continued high temperatures, prompting cities to activate multiple public cooling options. From misting tents to indoor rest areas, each site offers relief—some are even pet-friendly, making it easier for everyone to cool down together.
Several community-based cooling centres across Surrey are now open, equipped with misting tents, water stations, and indoor rest spaces. Most operate between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., with some extending into the late evening.
White Rock’s cooling relief includes both temporary and regularly operating sites. These locations offer shade, drinking water, and supplies.
Delta’s recreation centres, libraries, pools, and community hubs are open to offer a break from the heat. Facilities span North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen, and Tilbury—ensuring residents across the region have nearby access.
Highlights include:
In addition to community sites, city-run facilities are welcoming anyone needing heat relief. Locations in Cloverdale, Guildford, Newton, Fleetwood, South Surrey, and Whalley are open during the day.
Pet-friendly centres include:
All Surrey Libraries branches also serve as public indoor spaces with air conditioning and water access.
If you’re feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or overheated—don’t wait. Visit a nearby cooling centre or library. Drink water regularly, avoid outdoor exertion, and check in on family, friends, or neighbours who may need help.
