Once turned down by charities, Surrey’s F.U.B.A.R. Golf Classic now funds dreams through Make-A-Wish. The 15-year tradition returns Aug. 24.

A Tournament That Almost Didn’t Happen

Fifteen years ago, the idea of a charity golf tournament in Surrey nearly fizzled before it began. Organizers couldn’t find a cause willing to partner with them. Fast forward to today, and the Friends United Beyond All Race (F.U.B.A.R.) Golf Classic has become one of the community’s most anticipated summer events.

Back on the Greens for a Great Cause

This year’s event tees off on Sunday, August 24 at the Guildford Golf & Country Club. The “best ball” tournament will once again raise funds for Make-A-Wish Canada’s BC & Yukon Chapter, helping grant life-changing experiences to children facing critical illnesses.

The Man Behind the Magic

At the heart of the F.U.B.A.R. Golf Classic is Al Lamons, better known to many as DJ Alibaba. With decades of spinning tracks at Metro Vancouver’s biggest events, Lamons brings his signature energy and passion to the fairways, turning the day into more than just a game of golf—it’s a community celebration.

A Story of Determination and Heart

What began as an uphill battle is now a feel-good fixture on Surrey’s summer calendar. Players come for the game, but they leave knowing they’ve helped make dreams come true. And for Lamons, seeing the impact on local families is worth every swing.
