CF Monterrey dominated Vancouver Rise FC Academy 4-0 in the Concacaf Women’s Champions Cup, leaving Rise FC seeking redemption in their next group match.
It was a challenging evening for the Vancouver Rise FC Academy on Thursday, Oct. 2, as they faced CF Monterrey at the iconic Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Mexico. The young Canadian squad battled hard but ultimately fell 4–0 in the Concacaf Women’s Champions Cup group stage.
From the first whistle, CF Monterrey made their intentions clear. Australian forward Emily Gielnik opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a sharp finish, then struck again just five minutes later. The early brace set the tone for a commanding first half.
As Monterrey continued to press, Nicole Pérez added a third goal in the 38th minute, pushing the home side further ahead. Moments before halftime, Katty Martínez made it 4–0 with a precise shot in stoppage time. By then, Monterrey had taken full control of the match.
Despite their efforts, Vancouver Rise FC couldn’t gain momentum. Monterrey held an impressive 78.3% possession, firing 16 shots—six on target—while Rise FC managed nine shots, with just two reaching the goalkeeper.
Still, for a team making its debut in this prestigious tournament, every minute on the field was a valuable learning experience.
After this match, Gotham FC leads Group B with 10 points, followed by the Washington Spirit with 7. Monterrey sits in third with 6 points, while Rise FC and Alianza Women FC round out the group standings.
The Rise FC Academy will have another opportunity to make their mark when they face Alianza Women FC on Oct. 16. Both teams are hungry for their first win, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting clash.

This year marks Vancouver Rise FC Academy’s first-ever appearance in the Concacaf Women’s Champions Cup. Formerly known as the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, the program continues to nurture young female talent through a national development pathway that connects directly to Canada Soccer’s Women’s National EXCEL Program.
As the team grows and gains international experience, one thing is clear — Rise FC’s journey has only just begun.
