A tense early-morning confrontation unfolded in Chilliwack, B.C., on Saturday, October 25, when a male driver rammed four RCMP cruisers while trying to flee police. The incident, described by officers as “dynamic and dangerous,” began around 3:30 a.m. near Wellington Avenue and Lower Landing Road.
Suspicious Truck Sparks Pursuit
Police first encountered the suspect when a Chilliwack RCMP officer attempted to stop a suspicious truck. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away. The officer did not pursue immediately, but moments later the same vehicle was spotted driving erratically through the downtown core by other patrol units.
Collisions Across the City
According to RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, the driver’s reckless route through downtown streets culminated in a head-on collision with a marked police vehicle. Despite the impact, he continued fleeing, ignoring traffic controls and striking multiple police cruisers as officers attempted to contain him.
Final Confrontation on Yale Road
The chase ended east of town when the truck, heading along Yale Road near Prest Road, lost control and slammed into a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Multiple RCMP members converged on the scene and tried to box in the truck, but the suspect rammed several cruisers in a final attempt to escape.
Arrest and Injuries Reported
Officers used a Conducted Energy Weapon to subdue the suspect, who sustained minor injuries from shattered glass. Two officers were also treated for minor injuries at Chilliwack General Hospital. All individuals have since been released. The male suspect remains in custody as investigators determine whether the truck was stolen.
Investigation Continues
Sgt. Mulvihill praised the “coordinated efforts” of the responding officers, noting that quick actions prevented further harm to the public. In total, six vehicles were damaged — four RCMP cruisers, the suspect’s truck, and one civilian vehicle. Charges are pending, and the investigation remains active.
