Despite missing seven players due to injuries, Vancouver clawed out a nail-biting 4-3 overtime victory against the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night at Rogers Arena.
Sherwood Shines Under Pressure
Kiefer Sherwood stole the spotlight with two crucial goals — including the game-winner just 1:42 into overtime. His quick hands and relentless energy proved the difference, sending the Vancouver crowd into a frenzy.
“We bent but didn’t break,” Sherwood said after the game, grinning from ear to ear. “It’s a good two points for us.”
The victory pushed Vancouver back to an even 5-5-0 record, while the Oilers slipped to 4-5-1.
Boeser and Pettersson Set the Tone Early
Brock Boeser got the party started late in the first period, burying a slick backhand past Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard. It was Boeser’s fourth goal of the year — and his ninth in the last eight games against Edmonton.
Early in the second, Elias Pettersson doubled the lead on a power play, ripping a rocket from the right circle off a crisp feed from Filip Hronek. The Canucks looked unstoppable.
However, when Sherwood appeared to make it 3-0, Edmonton’s successful offside challenge wiped the goal off the board. That brief pause in celebration gave the Oilers a chance to regroup.
Draisaitl Leads the Edmonton Pushback
Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl responded like a man on a mission, scoring late in the second period off a beautiful stretch pass from Evan Bouchard. But just as the Oilers found life, Sherwood dashed their momentum — dancing through defenders and restoring Vancouver’s two-goal cushion with a highlight-reel finish.
The Oilers weren’t done yet. Jack Roslovic opened the third period by capitalizing on a Vancouver turnover, cutting the lead to one. Then, with under six minutes to go, Draisaitl struck again on the power play, set up perfectly by Connor McDavid to tie it 3-3.
Overtime Drama Seals the Deal
As the crowd held its breath, the Canucks regrouped for 3-on-3 overtime. Just 102 seconds in, Sherwood tipped home a Boeser shot, sending Rogers Arena into chaos and sealing his sixth goal of the season.
Thatcher Demko stood tall once again, stopping 26 of 29 shots, while Boeser capped a stellar night with a goal and two assists. Conor Garland added two helpers of his own, and both teams went 1-for-2 on the power play.

The Canucks return to home ice Tuesday to face the red-hot New York Rangers before hitting the road for a Thursday clash against the St. Louis Blues. With their captain sidelined but spirits soaring, Vancouver seems determined to prove that resilience — not luck — fuels their fight.
