Surrey invites residents to share ideas for Unwin Park upgrades. Have your say before Dec. 7 to help design a park that reflects the city’s growing needs.

Surrey Seeks Your Voice to Reimagine Unwin Park

Picture this: a park where kids splash under the sun, athletes play on new courts, and families gather under shaded picnic spaces. That’s the vision the City of Surrey has for Unwin Park and your ideas could help bring it to life.

As Surrey’s population grows and recreational trends evolve, the city is turning to its residents for input on how to enhance one of its most loved community spaces.

A Park with a Big Heart and Bigger Plans

Located in the heart of Newton, Unwin Park stretches across about 15 city blocks and already offers a wide range of amenities from an outdoor pool and dog area to soccer fields and an inclusive playground. But as the city changes, so do its needs.

According to a city report, many existing features are due for upgrades. Some are underused, while others like parking and accessibility need attention. With sports preferences shifting, traditional games like baseball and lacrosse are seeing fewer players, while activities such as pickleball, cricket, basketball, and walking are surging in popularity.

What’s on the Table for Unwin Park’s Future

The city is exploring several exciting possibilities, including:

  • Pickleball and tennis courts
  • A cricket field
  • A skate park and disc golf area
  • Fitness circuit and nature trails
  • Covered picnic spaces
  • An outdoor event venue

These additions could transform Unwin Park into a dynamic community hub, blending recreation, wellness, and connection in one vibrant space.

Why Your Feedback Matters

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke emphasized that parks are the heartbeat of community life. “Our parks support active living, build community connections, and boost well-being,” she said. “We want residents to help shape a park that truly reflects Surrey’s growing and diverse population.”

With Surrey on track to become B.C.’s most populous city, enhancing public spaces like Unwin Park is key to meeting the needs of its expanding population. Currently, the city boasts more than 800 parks, and over 200 of them feature recreational amenities.

How to Share Your Ideas

Residents are encouraged to take part in shaping Unwin Park’s future by submitting feedback before December 7.

Building Tomorrow’s Park, Together

Newton, home to nearly 160,000 residents, continues to grow rapidly up seven percent since 2016. With such momentum, it’s no surprise that residents are eager to see spaces like Unwin Park evolve to match their community’s energy.
