Three-Year-Old Hospitalized After Minivan Collision in Fraser Heights

A three-year-old child was taken to hospital Wednesday night after being struck by a minivan in Surrey’s Fraser Heights neighbourhood.

Police Say Child Ran Onto Roadway

Surrey Police Service officers and emergency crews responded around 7:15 p.m. to 168 Street and 104 Avenue following reports of a pedestrian collision.
SPS media liaison officer Ian MacDonald said the child “ran onto the roadway” before being hit by a Dodge Caravan.

The driver stayed on scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Police say the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Low Speed Helped Avoid Severe Injuries

The collision happened just after the traffic light turned green, meaning the vehicle was travelling at a relatively low speed when impact occurred, MacDonald noted.
The intersection remained closed for a period of time and bus routes were temporarily rerouted during the investigation.
