Earl Marriott Grad Among Top Athletes Honoured at Volleyball BC Gala
Several standout athletes from across B.C. were celebrated at Volleyball BC’s 2025 Hall of Fame and Excellence Awards in Burnaby on Nov. 8 including Earl Marriott Secondary alum Mia Stevens.
Mia Stevens Named Female Athlete of the Year
Stevens, a 2025 EMS graduate and four-time EMS Female Athlete of the Year, received Volleyball BC’s Female Athlete of the Year (Beach Volleyball) award.
Now a freshman at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, she is studying kinesiology while competing in Division 1 beach volleyball. Stevens travelled from Texas to accept the honour.
She described playing for Team BC Beach as “one of the highlights” of her career and expressed deep gratitude to the many coaches who guided her from Team BC to programs like The Beach Co., Sideout Beach, Stealth Beach (Phoenix), and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Surrey Coach and Local Team Also Recognized
Surrey-based coach Sara Cornell earned the Female Coach of the Year (18U) award. Cornell led Cloverdale’s Raincity Riptide to the 17U national championship last year.
Raincity Riptide, featuring EMS athletes Isla Stock and Faith Burden also won Youth Team of the Year (17U) at the gala.
