Officer Injured in Langley Hit-and-Run
An Abbotsford police officer was injured Friday evening in a hit-and-run crash in Langley, sparking an ongoing investigation by the RCMP and Abbotsford Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone with dashcam footage or eyewitness information to come forward.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the 5200 block of 264th Street. The officer, who was on duty and driving an unmarked police vehicle, collided with a white GMC Canyon pickup truck. Following the crash, both the driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot.
Officer’s Condition and Immediate Response
According to Langley RCMP Cpl. Brett Urano, the officer suffered minor injuries and was expected to be released from the hospital shortly. Officers from both departments responded quickly, ensuring the injured officer received medical attention and securing the crash site.
Investigation Underway
The Langley RCMP has taken the lead on the investigation, with support from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS). Their goal is to determine exactly how the collision occurred and to locate the suspects involved.
“The police are still trying to identify and locate those involved to ensure everyone’s safety,” Urano said.
Traffic Disruptions
The area surrounding 264th Street and Highway 1 experienced significant traffic delays as authorities worked to investigate the crash. Motorists were advised to plan alternate routes while the investigation continues.
Call for Witnesses
Authorities are asking anyone who was driving in the area at the time, witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage to contact the Langley RCMP. “The investigation is still in its early stages, and any information could be crucial,” Urano emphasized.
