Surrey Opens More Shelters as Cold Night Approaches

Surrey opens extra community shelters as temperatures drop to 2°C tonight, offering mats, warm drinks, and safe spaces for adults in need.

The temperature in Surrey is dropping fast tonight. It may reach just 2°C, and according to Environment Canada, evening fog may also roll in. So, the city is taking quick action.

Because of the cold, extra community-based shelters are opening tonight (Nov. 18). The Homelessness Services Association of B.C. issued an alert, and now more people will have a warm place to stay. And that brings hope.

Many locations will welcome adults aged 19+ tonight. So, here’s a quick guide:

Surrey Alliance Church – 13474 96th Ave.

• Hours: 9 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
• Access: Rear parking lot, through breezeway
• Notes: No pets. Adults only. 30 mats available.

South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre EWR – 14601 20th Ave.

• Hours: 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
• Access: Lower parking lot
• Notes: Pet-friendly. Couples welcome. 45 mats ready.

NightShift Ministries – 10635 King George Blvd.

• Hours: 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
• Notes: Cannot accept carts or pets. Not wheelchair accessible. For adults. 16 mats open.

Surrey Welcome Hub – 13545 King George Blvd.

• Hours: 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
• Notes: Couples allowed. Snacks and hot drinks served. No pets. No cart storage. 16 mats offered.

Shimai Transition House – 13327 100A Ave.

• Hours: 8 p.m. – 8 a.m. (intake until midnight)
• Notes: Wheelchair accessible. Pet friendly (some limits). Offers coffee, tea, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, waffles, and snacks. Includes cart storage, showers, laundry, and bus ticket on exit. Six mats for women.
