Enjoy free holiday skating at two festive Surrey rinks this month, with seasonal décor, music, rentals, and activities for everyone.
Surrey Skating Spots Bring Holiday Cheer All Month
Looking for a fun way to feel festive this season? Surrey is rolling out not one, but two magical skating spots and one of them is completely free. Let’s glide into the holiday spirit together!
Surrey Civic Plaza: Free Outdoor Skating Experience
Right outside Surrey City Hall, a massive 4,000-square-foot rink has been set up under a giant tent. The space sparkles with concert-style lights, Christmas trees, music, and festive décor. Since the rink runs daily from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Feb. 16, you’ll have plenty of chances to enjoy it.
However, because hours shift to 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1, planning ahead helps. Although skate rentals cost $5, bringing your own skates saves money immediately. To manage rink capacity, skaters simply pick up a wristband at the skate shop, and then head onto the ice with ease.
Additionally, school groups can book Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, while private groups get Saturday mornings. Meanwhile, visitors can enjoy a café, seasonal activities, and music, which add even more holiday flavour. For details or schedule updates, visit surrey.ca/plazaskating anytime.
Cloverdale Arena: Winter Ice Palace Returns
Beginning Dec. 13, the beloved Winter Ice Palace returns to the Cloverdale Arena at 6090 176 Street. Because this event has grown over the past 26 years, locals see it as a holiday tradition. Strings of lights, joyful music and cheerful decorations lift spirits, while families, couples and friends glide across the ice together.
Moreover, admission costs only $5, rentals are $3.50, and helmets are available for just $1.75. Since demand is high, bringing your own gear is strongly recommended. Besides, early sign-up opens 72 hours before each session, and participants must register at least one hour in advance to secure a spot. To plan ahead, visit surrey.ca/wintericepalace or call 604-501-5100.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
Because both rinks offer easy access, fun decorations, welcoming vibes, warm seating areas and upbeat music, the atmosphere feels joyful from the start. Also, skating is one of the best ways to create memories while staying active. Even better, both locations encourage community spirit, shared laughter and festive excitement.
After all, the holiday season moves quickly, yet skating slows time just enough to enjoy it. Therefore, grab your mittens, gather your loved ones, and hit the ice before the season slips away.
