Historic Win for Tweedsmuir
On November 30, 2025, the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers made history. For the first time ever, they clinched a senior varsity football provincial title beating W.J. Mouat Hawks 26-21 at the championship match inside BC Place.
This victory isn’t just another win it’s a milestone. It marks the moment Tweedsmuir moves from contenders to champions, stamping their name in the province’s high-school football legacy.
How It Went Down A Nail-Biter Finale
From the first whistle, it was a hard-fought battle. The Panthers struck first when running back Jerin Harinen powered in a rushing touchdown early in the game.
Mouat answered back, and by halftime the game was tight but Tweedsmuir led 17-7.
The Hawks came alive in the second half, rallying to take a 21-20 lead as the clock wound down.
Yet in the final minutes, Tweedsmuir seized their chance. After a key stop on fourth down, they took over deep in Mouat’s territory. A final touchdown, scored with just 1:17 left, flipped the score to 26-21 in favour of the Panthers.
A last-ditch effort by Mouat ended in an interception and Tweedsmuir held on. The final whistle blew, and the celebration began.
Emotions, Pride and What It Means
For players and coaches, the win felt surreal. The head coach, a former student himself, said it was “unbelievable” proud of a public-school team that fought hard, believed, and finally broke through.
For the Surrey community, it’s a moment of pride. Tweedsmuir’s journey from underdog to champion shows hard work, determination, and teamwork still pay off. This title might inspire future athletes, spark school spirit, and boost confidence across the district.
