Abbotsford Man Identified After Fatal Daytime Shooting

Police in Abbotsford have named the man who was killed in a brazen daytime shooting last week. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed the victim was 28-year-old Navpreet Dhaliwal, a local resident known to law enforcement.

Incident Occurred in Broad Daylight

On January 9, shortly before 1 p.m., officers with the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at a home in the 3200 block of Siskin Drive, a residential area of the city. First responders found a man suffering from serious gunshot wounds, and despite their efforts, he died at the scene.

Investigators have described the shooting as targeted and brazen, saying it took place in the middle of the day, but have stressed that it appears confined to that single location.

Gang Conflict Ties and Ongoing Inquiry

Police believe the shooting is connected to the ongoing gang conflict in British Columbia. Officers with IHIT, working alongside the BC Coroners Service and the Abbotsford Police Department, are canvassing the area and gathering evidence, including CCTV and dashcam footage from nearby streets between late morning and early afternoon on the day of the incident.

While the killing has been linked to gang activity, investigators have clarified that it is not related to recent extortion-focused violence targeting South Asian communities, which has been a separate concern in the region.

Police Appeal for Witnesses Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area of Blue Jay Street and Siskin Drive on the afternoon of January 9 to come forward if they have dashcam or security camera footage that could assist the investigation. Witness tips can be submitted through the IHIT information line to support ongoing work to identify those responsible.
