Vancouver FC couldn’t have asked for a better lead-up to their biggest game of the season. On Sunday at Willoughby Community Park in Langley, the Eagles earned their second straight home win, defeating the Halifax Wanderers 3-1. The victory sets the stage perfectly for Wednesday’s Canadian Championship final against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Quick Fire Goals Set the Tone
The home side wasted little time making an impact. Kunle Dada-Luke charged down the wing and delivered a pinpoint cross, met beautifully by Hugo Mbongue, who directed a header past Halifax keeper Rayane Yesli.
Minutes later, Mbongue struck again. This time, Michel Cavalcante’s clever pass found Thierno Bah, who whipped in a cross that Mbongue expertly guided into the net with his chest. With a 2-0 lead before halftime, Vancouver had full control of the match.
A Costly Mistake Seals It
As stoppage time approached, the Eagles put the game to bed. A misplaced back pass from Kareem Sow left Pathé Ndiaye with a golden chance. He pounced, rounded Yesli, and calmly slotted home Vancouver’s third of the night.
Late Response From Halifax
Halifax did manage to spoil the clean sheet. In the dying moments, Thomas Meilleur-Giguère found space at the back post and tucked in his fourth goal of the season. While it offered the Wanderers some consolation, it was too little, too late.
Eyes on the Championship
With two wins on the bounce and confidence soaring, Vancouver FC now turns its full attention to the Canadian Championship final. The showdown with the Whitecaps promises to be the most significant match in the club’s history—and the Eagles are flying into it with momentum on their side.
