A 49-year-old Surrey man has died and another driver has been hospitalized following a serious two-truck collision on Highway 1 near Lytton on Monday morning.

BC Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Nov. 24 at the Tank Hill Bridge, a stretch of highway known for narrow lanes and complex terrain.

Two Tractor-Trailers Collided Head-On

According to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, investigators believe a northbound blue Kenworth tractor-trailer hauling two empty flat-deck trailers collided with a southbound green Volvo tractor-trailer pulling two enclosed trailers.

The driver of the southbound Volvo, the 49-year-old Surrey man died at the scene. The 38-year-old Chilliwack man operating the Kenworth was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators Seeking Dashcam Footage

Police say determining whether criminality is involved will rely heavily on dashcam video and witness accounts.

“Some key witnesses have already spoken to police, and investigators are looking into the driving behaviour of both trucks leading up to the crash,” Cpl. McLaughlin said. “If you have dash camera video, or you saw either of these trucks on the road, police need to speak to you.”

Witness Appeal

BC Highway Patrol has released a photo of the Kenworth involved and is urging drivers who travelled Highway 1 near Tank Hill Bridge that morning to come forward.

Anyone with dashcam video or who witnessed either vehicle should contact BC Highway Patrol – Kamloops at 250-828-3111 and quote file (2100) 2025-3960.
