Surrey Woman Charged in NICU Infant Assault Investigation

Surrey, B.C. December 1, 2025:A 35-year-old Surrey woman has been formally charged in connection with an alleged assault involving infants at the Surrey Memorial Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).

Lindsey Susan Hirtreiter faces three counts of assault under section 266 of the Criminal Code. The charges stem from an SPS investigation into alleged unauthorized physical contact with infants at the NICU on October 28, 2025.Hirtreiter remains in custody, and her next scheduled court appearance is set for December 1, 2025.

The SPS also noted that a publication ban has been issued by the court, restricting the release of specific information related to the case. Media outlets and the public are advised to consult the Surrey Provincial Court registry for details on what can legally be reported. The Surrey Police Service stated that no additional comments will be provided until the matter progresses through court.
