Work Begins on Long awaited Weybridge Health Centre

Weybridge has taken a major step toward replacing the community hospital destroyed by fire in 2017.
For years residents relied on temporary buildings along Church Street. Now construction is underway on a modern two storey centre designed to meet growing health needs.

A New Home for Local Health Services

Once complete the site will support the Phoenix GP practice which will offer maternity care, urgent same day services and diagnostics under one roof.
Planning approval was granted by Elmbridge Borough Council earlier this year, clearing the way for the build to advance.

Preparing the Site for Full Construction

Contractors from Willmott Dixon are now on scene.
They are installing boundary fencing, setting up offices and beginning minor demolition to prepare the ground for the main build in early 2026.
NHS Surrey Heartlands officials expect the entire project to finish in 2027.

Community Partnership Helps Push Project Forward

Jack Wagstaff, the executive director of strategic commissioning, credited the project to local partnership.
He noted that residents, the Integrated Care Board, Phoenix Family Practice, NHS Property Services and Elmbridge Borough Council worked together to bring it forward.
According to him, the centre will bring major benefits to Weybridge and nearby communities.

Doctors Welcome Progress but Note Disruption

Dr Graeme Wilding, a GP partner at Phoenix Family Practice, called the development excellent news.
He also cautioned that the build will create an extended period of disruption with limited parking on site.
He thanked staff and patients for their patience and said the team looks forward to moving into the new building.

Local MPs Celebrate the Move Ahead

Conservative MP Dr Ben Spencer told BBC Radio Surrey he was pleased to see progress at last.
He acknowledged the delays and bureaucracy that slowed the project but said today was about celebrating progress and seeing work finally start.

Government Confirms Support and Funding

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care said the health centre will combine urgent care, diagnostics and community services.
They confirmed national funding has been secured and full construction is expected to begin early in the New Year.
