Child in Critical Condition After Being Hit by Vehicle in Surrey’s Newton

Child critically injured in Newton collision

A 9-year-old child is in life-threatening condition after being struck by a vehicle in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood on Friday afternoon. The collision happened around 2:35 p.m. in the 13400-block of 81 Avenue, according to Surrey Police Service (SPS).

Police, Surrey Fire Service and BC Emergency Health Services all responded to the scene. The child was rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, where life-saving efforts are continuing.

Investigation underway, impairment not suspected

SPS’s Collision Investigation Unit has taken over the file and closed a section of 81 Avenue between King George Boulevard and 134 Street for several hours while officers gather evidence. At this stage, police say impairment is not believed to be a factor, and the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
