Artist Garage Sale in Surrey returns in January
The Artist Garage Sale in Surrey is back at Newton Cultural Centre early in the new year. On Saturday, Jan. 10, from noon to 3 p.m., tables at 13530 72 Avenue will fill with gently used paints, brushes, instruments and other creative tools. Event organizer Lyn Verra‑Lay calls the sale “an affordable way to start a hobby” and a smart way to keep usable materials out of the landfill.
People typically bring sheet music, costumes, dance shoes, musical instruments, yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks and jewelry‑making supplies. Because prices stay low, the Artist Garage Sale in Surrey helps students, families and emerging artists stock up without paying full retail.
How the sale supports Belinda’s Connection Café
Beyond good deals, the Artist Garage Sale in Surrey also raises money for Belinda’s Connection Café, a free arts‑based program for adults 55+ run at Newton Cultural Centre. Table rentals cost 10 dollars, and Verra‑Lay also accepts donated items that the sale team prices and sells. All proceeds help cover costs for future Connection Café workshops and supplies.
Belinda’s Connection Café runs monthly morning sessions; the next one, “Tea Time Stories: Favourite Literary Characters,” happens Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Arts Council of Surrey has funded the program for the past two years, but as Verra‑Lay notes, every bit of extra support helps stretch those dollars and bring more seniors into creative spaces.
How to take part in the Artist Garage Sale in Surrey
For the Artist Garage Sale in Surrey, people can choose to rent a table and sell their own supplies, keep their earnings, or donate some or all of the proceeds. Others simply drop off items for the organizers to sell. Admission at the door is by donation, and door prizes include a hand‑dyed silk scarf from Verra‑Lay’s own label, The Spiral Rainbow.
Anyone who wants to donate supplies, book a table or register for Belinda’s Connection Café sessions can contact Lyn Verra‑Lay by email at lyn.verra.lay@gmail.com or by phone at 778‑879‑4097. Other 2026 Connection Café dates feature beginner drawing, rope bowls, movement, fused glass and leather‑cuff workshops, giving Surrey’s older adults many chances to explore new creative paths.
