Former MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay hasn’t decided on BC Conservative leadership yet, but a new website fuels speculation about a possible run.
Veteran MP Considers BC Conservative Leadership
Former South Surrey-White Rock MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay is keeping her options open regarding a run for the BC Conservative leadership. While a website launched on December 10 hints at her possible candidacy, Findlay told Peace Arch News on December 11 that no final decision has been made.
“For a long time, people had been talking to me about running as the leader of the BC Conservatives,” Findlay said. “I honestly didn’t think much of it before because there was already a leader. I’d known and been friends with John Rustad for a long time.”
Leadership Shake-Up Sparks Speculation
John Rustad stepped down on December 4 after 20 MLAs pushed for his resignation, even though he initially resisted. Interim leader Trevor Halford now holds the reins of the Official Opposition.
“Now things have changed, and people are talking about a ‘Draft KLF’ movement,” Findlay explained. “I have given it some thought, but I want to see how things unfold.”
Political Experience and Family Ties
Findlay brings decades of political experience. She served as the party whip under Pierre Poilievre, was a cabinet minister, and represented South Surrey-White Rock as a Conservative MP from 2019 to 2025. Earlier, she represented Delta-Richmond East from 2011 to 2015.
Her husband, Brent Chapman, currently serves as the BC Conservative MLA for Surrey South, further strengthening her connection to provincial politics.
Website Campaign Fuels ‘Draft KLF’ Movement
The newly launched website encourages Conservative members to petition for Findlay’s leadership. It highlights her political achievements, including opposition to drug decriminalization, support for veterans, backing Canadian pipelines, and advocating for hunters and small businesses.
A petition on the site calls on supporters to “Defeat the NDP, Fire David Eby, and Stop the Drugs” by drafting Findlay for Premier, while another urges members to join the broader “Draft Kerry-Lynne Findlay” movement.

Patience Before a Decision
Despite growing momentum, Findlay emphasizes caution. “Right now, we don’t know all the rules and regulations about running,” she said. “I’m going to wait until there’s more clarity before making a final decision. We’ll wait and see.”
With a mix of political experience, public support, and strategic timing, Findlay’s next move could significantly shape the BC Conservative landscape.
