Grinch Costume Becomes Local Holiday Hero
In Langford, one resident has turned a classic grumpy green character into a beacon of joy and goodwill this holiday season. What started as a fun idea after tough lockdown years has grown into a full community tradition that brings smiles and laughter to families across the city.
Stan Schinners, a software salesperson by day, began donning a Grinch costume while doing his food delivery side job. At first, it was a way to lighten spirits in a community that felt worn down, but it quickly became so much more as people reacted with delight and excitement when they saw the familiar green face approaching with their dinner.
Delivering Food and Cheer, Not Grumbles
Schinners says the joy he witnessed from his neighbours was immediate and powerful, and he kept going because of those reactions. He started bringing not only burgers, butter chicken and burritos but also laughter and festive cheer with every delivery.
Instead of stealing Christmas, this Grinch is giving holiday magic showing up in costume at front doors with a hearty “ho ho ho” and making people’s day brighter during a time that can be hard for many.
From Side Gig to Community Star
Over the years, Schinners’ costume has evolved too. What was once a basic outfit has now become a detailed look with custom pieces and whimsical touches. He even plans further upgrades so that the Grinch persona becomes even more convincing and fun for kids and adults alike.
As his popularity grew, so did invitations. The Grinch has become a fixture at community holiday events, from Winter Fest gatherings to local parades, where children rush in for high-fives and photos.
Magic in Small Moments
Despite his increasing local fame, Schinners says his favourite moments are still the simple ones — pulling up to a driveway, seeing someone’s face light up, and knowing that for a minute, he made someone’s day a little bit better.
A recent delivery turned into one such moment when a grateful message arrived after he gave a young woman not just a meal but a cheerful selfie that lifted her spirits during a tough moment. For Schinners, that’s what keeps the holiday magic alive.
Grinch Spirit Alive in Langford
Today, this cheerful Grinch is more than a costumed figure he’s become a symbol of how one person’s simple idea can bring community together, make people laugh, and spread joy during the holidays.
