Fatal collision in South Surrey

On Sunday, Dec. 14, around 7:20 p.m., a Surrey Police Service car collided with a woman at 152 Street and 64 Avenue. Officers, Surrey Fire Service crews and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics provided medical aid at the scene. However, the woman died from her injuries at the roadside.

Police closed 152 Street between roughly 60 Avenue and 66A Avenue, and shut 64 Avenue near 152 Street for several hours while crash investigators documented the area and gathered evidence.

Independent probe launched

Because a police vehicle was involved, the case now falls under civilian oversight. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has taken jurisdiction and will examine the actions of the Surrey Police Service officers leading up to and during the collision.

The watchdog will look at whether any police conduct may have contributed to the woman’s death. Surrey Police say they have notified the agency and are cooperating with the investigation.

Call for witnesses and video
