Demko Dominates as Canucks Blank Rangers

In a standout performance on Tuesday night, Thatcher Demko turned away all 23 shots he faced and helped the Vancouver Canucks beat the New York Rangers 3-0 at Madison Square Garden. His effort marked his first shutout of the season and the 10th of his NHL career, giving Vancouver a boost in a tough campaign.

This win also extended Vancouver’s mini-streak to two straight victories, a positive development coming right after a blockbuster trade involving former captain Quinn Hughes.

Early Goals Set the Tone

The Canucks wasted no time taking control. Evander Kane scored just under two minutes into the game, setting the tone for the evening. Soon after, newcomer Liam Ohgren acquired in the recent trade notched his first goal with Vancouver, doubling the lead in the second period.

Late in the third, Conor Garland sealed the win with a short-handed empty-net goal, ensuring there would be no late comeback for the Rangers.

Rangers’ Struggles Continue

For the home side, it was another frustrating night. The Rangers were shut out at MSG for the sixth time this season, underscoring ongoing offensive problems. Despite efforts from veterans like Mika Zibanejad, who had returned to the lineup after a benching the previous night, New York couldn’t find a way past Demko and Vancouver’s defence.

Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick made 14 saves, but Vancouver’s disciplined play kept New York off the scoresheet.

What Comes Next

The Canucks, still navigating a season of ups and downs, now look ahead on the schedule with renewed confidence. Their next matchup sees them returning to action against the New York Islanders this Friday.

Meanwhile, the Rangers will aim to snap their skid and get back on track after a tough home loss that further highlights their offensive struggles this season.
