Montreal Victoire beat Vancouver Goldeneyes 4-2, ending their home streak in front of 12,000 fans. Big goals, big saves, and big moments.

A Loud Crowd, a Sudden Shift

The Pacific Coliseum buzzed on Saturday night. Fans packed the stands. Holiday music echoed. However, the ending shocked the home crowd.

The Montreal Victoire handed the Vancouver Goldeneyes a 4-2 loss and snapped Vancouver’s perfect home run. Even so, the energy inside the building never faded.

A crowd of 12,127 watched every hit, save, and goal.

Poulin Sets the Tone Early

Right from the start, Montreal played fast and calm. As a result, captain Marie-Philip Poulin opened the scoring in the first period.

Soon after, Dara Greig, Natálie Mlýnková, and Shiann Darkangelo added goals. Each strike came from clean plays and quick decisions.

Meanwhile, goaltender Sandra Abstreiter stood tall. She stopped 27 shots and stayed sharp under pressure.

Goldeneyes Push Back at Home

Despite the deficit, Vancouver fought hard. Sophie Jaques scored first for the Goldeneyes. Later, Michela Cava lit up the crowd with her first home goal of the season.

Because of that goal, the arena erupted.

“I’ve been frustrated,” Cava said. “So getting one at home felt amazing. The crowd was loud, and that helped a lot.”

In net, Emerance Maschmeyer turned aside 26 shots and kept Vancouver close.

Controversial Call Changes Momentum

During the third period, Vancouver thought it had tied the game. Gabby Rosenthal appeared to score. However, the PWHL situation room reviewed the play.

Officials ruled the goal out due to a distinct kicking motion. As a result, the comeback stalled.

The call drew groans. Still, play continued.

Coach Points to Consistency

After the game, head coach Brian Idalski stayed honest.

“We’re still finding who we are,” he said. “When we don’t exit cleanly, we create problems. Montreal kept it simple, and that worked.”

Because of those small mistakes, Vancouver struggled to regain control.

Fans Bring the Holiday Spirit

Although the loss hurt, the crowd stayed festive. Fans sang along between plays. Cheers rang out often.

One unforgettable moment came when a Montreal stick flew into the stands. A lucky fan caught it. When staff tried to take it back, the crowd booed. Eventually, the fan kept it, and the building roared.

What’s Next for Vancouver

This game marked Vancouver’s final matchup before Christmas. Next, the Goldeneyes face the Minnesota Frost on Dec. 27 at noon PT in Edmonton.

That game kicks off the 2025–26 PWHL Takeover Tour.

A Growing League, a Growing Following

The PWHL is now in its third season. Alongside original teams, Vancouver and Seattle joined the league this year.

Because of rising interest, fans can watch games across Prime Video, TSN, Sportsnet, and CBC.

Women’s hockey continues to grow. And nights like this prove why fans keep showing up.
