Vernon Festival Steps Onto Provincial Stage

Vernon’s first ever Performing Arts Festival has hit a major milestone just one year after its launch. The festival has now become an official member of Performing Arts BC, marking a big moment for the city’s creative community.

What Membership Means for Local Performers

As a member festival, Vernon now joins a province-wide network that brings together regional festivals focused on dance, music and theatre. Because of this new status, local performers in Vernon can now qualify for the Provincial Performing Arts Festival, showcasing their talent on a larger stage and competing alongside top performers from across British Columbia.

Festival president Becky Martselos said this achievement gives dancers, musicians and theatre artists from the Vernon area a chance to shine and grow. She noted that participation in the provincial event can boost confidence, exposure and creative development for artists of all ages.

What’s Ahead in 2026

The Vernon Performing Arts Festival is set to debut as a member festival from February 28 to March 12, 2026, featuring categories like dance, piano, strings and voice. People interested in taking part must submit their entries by January 15.

The festival celebrates a wide range of local talent through both judged performances and showcases, helping artists build skills while connecting with audiences and fellow creators.

Performing Arts BC’s Role

Performing Arts BC is a respected provincial network that supports excellence in the performing arts by linking local festivals to the larger Provincial Festival. This organization has been fostering artistic growth and community connections since 1964, providing opportunities for artists to advance and gain wider recognition.

Next year’s BC Provincial Festival is scheduled for June 1 to 6, 2026, in Prince George, where top performers from member festivals like Vernon’s will come together for the provincial showcase.
