Church Fire Shakes Burns Lake Community

In a remarkable show of grace and compassion, members of Island Gospel Fellowship in Burns Lake, British Columbia, have chosen prayer and forgiveness as they support a young person accused in the fire that destroyed their church.

The blaze, which occurred at the church on Highway 35, was deemed suspicious by police, and a youth has since been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

Worshippers Focus on Prayer and Healing

Rather than responding with anger or division, the congregation has focused its energy on prayer for the youth believed to be involved, as well as for the broader community that was impacted by the fire. Members have gathered regularly, lifting up words of peace, forgiveness and hope, even while they cope with the grief of losing their place of worship.

Church leaders have emphasized that their faith calls them to pray for all affected, including the person accused, and to seek restoration not just for the building but also for hearts hurt by the incident.

Restoration Plans and Temporary Worship

While the original church building suffered significant damage in the fire, efforts are underway to assess what can be done to rebuild or repair what was lost. In the meantime, members are meeting in alternate locations for services and community gatherings, and they remain connected through shared support and resilience.

Local services and volunteers have offered help as the congregation adapts, and church leaders continue to emphasize both practical rebuilding and spiritual healing during this difficult time.

Police Continue Investigation

RCMP in Burns Lake are still investigating the cause and circumstances of the fire. Evidence collected so far has led to the arrest of a youth, and officers are working to gather more information as the case proceeds. Authorities have stressed that, based on current evidence, they do not believe there is a broader public safety risk.

Residents with information relevant to the case are encouraged to contact the RCMP to assist with the ongoing investigation.
