A Surrey New Year’s Day crash has claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman as police continue to investigate impairment as a possible cause.
Tragedy Unfolds After New Year’s Day Crash
As the New Year began with hope, tragedy soon followed in Surrey. On Tuesday, Surrey Police Service confirmed heartbreaking news. A 23-year-old woman, who rode as a passenger in a serious New Year’s Day collision, has died from her injuries.
Collision Shakes a Busy Surrey Intersection
On January 1, at about 5:20 p.m., chaos erupted near 32 Avenue and 194 Street. A tractor trailer collided with two passenger vehicles, drawing immediate concern. As calls poured in, police rushed to the scene. At the same time, Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS crews arrived to help.
Victims Rushed to Hospital
As first responders worked quickly, they transported three people from the passenger vehicles to hospital. Initially, doctors listed two of them in critical condition. Meanwhile, the tractor trailer driver escaped without injury.
Sadly, despite medical efforts, one passenger did not survive.
Investigation Continues as Questions Remain
While police continue their investigation, answers remain limited. However, officers believe impairment may have played a role in the crash. Even so, police have not laid criminal charges at this time.
