A late-night shooting in Surrey’s Newton area damaged a home but hurt no one. Police say it may be tied to an ongoing extortion spree.
A Loud Wake-Up Call in Newton
Late-night silence shattered in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood. Just after 1:30 a.m. on January 7, 2026, gunfire rang out on the 12300 block of 77A Avenue, sending residents into shock. Thankfully, no one was hurt, even though a home took damage.
Police Rush In Quickly
Moments later, Surrey Police Service officers arrived at the scene. Right away, they found clear signs that shots had struck a residence. Importantly, everyone inside was safe. As a result, fear outweighed injuries that night.
Specialized Team Takes Over
Soon after, the Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) stepped in. From there, they took full control of the case. Meanwhile, investigators began collecting physical evidence. At the same time, they started reviewing video footage and speaking with police partners.
Possible Link to Surrey Extortions
Notably, police believe this shooting may connect to an ongoing extortion series in Surrey. Because of that, officers are checking for links to other active files. For now, the investigation remains in its early stages. However, updates may follow as evidence comes together.
