Registration Window Opens This Week

Families across Surrey can begin registering for City-run preschool and group child-care programs starting tomorrow, Feb. 3. Registration remains open through Feb. 5, giving parents a short window to secure spots for the upcoming school year.

Programs run from September to June at recreation facilities throughout the city. In addition, flexible schedules are available, which helps families balance work, school, and daily routines.

Affordable Care Gets a Boost

Thanks to a provincial partnership, some preschool spaces are available for just $10 per day. These reduced-cost spots are currently offered at Cloverdale Mini Recreation Centre and Fraser Heights Recreation Centre through the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.

Mayor Brenda Locke said affordability remains a major challenge for families. She added that the partnership helps parents access preschool quickly, without being held back by rising child-care costs.

More Locations on the Way

While only two centres currently offer $10-a-day preschool spaces, the City of Surrey is working to expand access. Officials confirm that nine applications are already in progress to bring the program to more City-operated preschool locations.

As a result, additional low-cost spaces could become available in the near future.

Play-Based Learning With Qualified Educators

All City of Surrey preschool programs are led by qualified early childhood educators. The programs follow the B.C. Early Learning Framework, which emphasizes learning through play while helping children transition smoothly into kindergarten.

Because of this approach, children develop social, emotional, and early learning skills in a supportive environment.
