Over 235 teams will flood Surrey for the 2026 Mayor’s Cup, turning Newton Athletic Park into a hub of youth soccer, community, and competition.

Surrey Set to Host Soccer Spectacle This March

Soccer fans, mark your calendars! From March 13-15, Surrey will transform into a bustling hub of athletic energy for the 2026 Surrey Mayor’s Cup. The annual tournament, hosted by Surrey FC during spring break, draws teams and families from across Canada and the U.S.—including B.C., Alberta, Ontario, Washington, and Idaho.

With over 235 traveling teams registered, local hotels and restaurants are expected to be packed, making the city buzz with excitement and community spirit.

Games Across Surrey’s Top Fields

Newton Athletic Park is the heart of the action, but matches will also spread across multiple fields in Surrey. Teams will compete in divisions from U8 to U18, showcasing incredible young talent and a variety of playing styles.

Surrey FC posted on social media, “With 235 traveling teams coming to Surrey, the tournament transforms the city into a true football hub, showcasing diverse playing styles and incredible young talent.”

Volunteers and Community Efforts

Before the first whistle blows, nearly three dozen volunteers swing into action, packing tournament kits, prepping fields, and ensuring games run smoothly throughout the weekend. This behind-the-scenes effort highlights the strong community spirit that makes the Mayor’s Cup a standout event.

New Coaches Lead Young Talent

In other Surrey FC news, Daniel Davidson and Vinay Bahia have been named head coaches of the club’s 2013 BCSPL teams for boys and girls, respectively. Both coaches are long-time Surrey FC members with deep experience guiding youth players. The club is optimistic that their leadership will continue developing the next generation of soccer stars.

Spotlight on Canadian Soccer

Recently, Surrey FC hosted Adam van Koeverden, Canada’s Secretary of State for Sport, at Newton Athletic Park. The visit focused on preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, federal investment in community sport, and the role of local facilities in nurturing talent. Surrey FC described it as “a great conversation about the future of soccer in Canada and the impact strong community facilities have on growing the game.”

A Season of Big Tournaments

The Mayor’s Cup is just the beginning. This fall, from October 6-12, Newton Athletic Park will host 24 top U-15 teams from across Canada in national championship tournaments for both boys and girls. Surrey FC’s field has a rich history of hosting Canada Soccer events, including the milestone 100th annual national championships for adult amateur teams in October 2024.

Earlier that year, Surrey FC also hosted the regional Masters tournaments for men’s over-35 and women’s over-30 amateur clubs, proving once again that Newton Athletic Park is a cornerstone of Canadian soccer.
