Surrey’s Vaisakhi parade hits Newton April 18 with food, floats, and 600,000 attendees. Food vendors must secure permits early.
Surrey Sets Date for Massive Vaisakhi Parade
Get ready, Surrey! The city’s vibrant Vaisakhi parade is officially back on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Every year, this lively Sikh “nagar kirtan” procession fills Newton’s streets with music, color, and energy, attracting nearly 600,000 spectators. The parade kicks off at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar (12885 85th Ave.), marking one of the most anticipated events in the region.
A Spectacle of Culture, Community, and Color
The parade is a feast for the senses. Over 2,500 participants take part, including marching bands, school groups, performers, and cultural organizations. Along the route, families and local businesses offer free food, creating a shared celebration that reflects the community’s generosity and spirit.
Food Vendors Must Apply Early
Organizers are urging anyone who plans to distribute food during the parade to apply for a permit with Fraser Health immediately. The process ensures everyone can safely share treats with the huge crowds. Those without a permit will not be allowed to hand out food on parade day. Applications are available at SurreyVaisakhiParade.com.
Honoring History and Tradition
Surrey’s parade commemorates the founding of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It welcomes all community groups, performers, and organizations to join, highlighting both faith and cultural pride.
A Triumphant Return
After three years of pandemic-related cancellations from 2020 to 2022, the parade returned in 2023 to massive crowds, and this year promises an even bigger celebration. Residents and visitors alike can expect a day full of joy, music, and unforgettable sights.
