Fatal Collision Shakes Whalley Community
A quiet evening in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood turned tragic Tuesday after an 81-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle. Police have now launched a full investigation into the fatal pedestrian collision.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on February 11 in the 13800 block of 102 Avenue.
Emergency Crews Respond Quickly
According to Surrey Police Service, a vehicle travelling eastbound along 102 Avenue collided with the elderly pedestrian. Surrey Fire Services, BC Emergency Health Services and frontline officers rushed to the scene within minutes.
First responders performed life-saving efforts. However, despite their work, the woman died from her injuries.
Driver Stayed at Scene
Police confirmed the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. At this stage, officers say speed and impairment do not appear to have played a role in the collision.
Even so, investigators continue to review evidence to understand exactly what happened in the moments before impact.
Collision Investigation Unit Takes Over
SPS’s Collision Investigation Unit has now assumed conduct of the case. Officers are examining the roadway, vehicle position and surrounding area as they piece together the sequence of events.
Because pedestrian safety remains a key concern in busy urban corridors like Whalley, police say every detail matters.
Police Ask for Witnesses
Investigators are urging anyone who saw the crash or who may have dashcam footage from the area around 6:30 p.m. to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-14161 (SP).
As the investigation continues, police remind drivers and pedestrians alike to remain alert, especially during evening hours when visibility can drop quickly.
