Surrey Police and ICBC join forces in Operation Hang-Up to curb distracted driving. Education and enforcement hit 104th Avenue March 12.

Surrey Police and ICBC Team Up for Safer Roads

Surrey drivers, watch out! On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) is joining forces with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) to roll out Operation Hang-Up, a hands-on campaign targeting dangerous distracted driving.

The initiative combines education and enforcement, helping to keep everyone on the road alert while reminding drivers that safety comes first.

What’s Happening During Operation Hang-Up

From 9:30 a.m. to noon, volunteers and officers will be stationed along 104th Avenue and 152nd Street, providing real-time tips and guidance to drivers. Media are welcome to capture the action and even drive the route to see firsthand how education and enforcement work side by side.

Media interviews are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the northwest corner of the intersection, near the Guildford Town Centre.

Meet the Experts

  • Karen Klein, ICBC Road Safety & Community Coordinator, will share insights on how distracted driving affects our roads.
  • Inspector Earl Andersen, SPS Road Safety Section, will discuss enforcement strategies and key safety messages.

Additional agencies may join, offering even more opportunities for interviews and visuals.

What You’ll See

Expect dynamic visuals along 104th Avenue:

  • Volunteers educating drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.
  • Officers enforcing the law, which may include pulling over distracted drivers.
  • Drivers navigating the route, highlighting everyday risks on the road.
  • On-camera interviews with ICBC and SPS representatives.

Join the Campaign

Journalists and photographers are encouraged to RSVP at media@surreypolice.ca or simply show up at the northwest corner of 104th Avenue and 152nd Street at 10:00 a.m. on March 12 for interviews and coverage.

This campaign is part of a provincial distracted driving initiative, reinforcing the message that no text, call, or screen is worth risking a life.
