Surrey launches eCheck, a digital tool that speeds residential plan reviews, reduces delays, and helps designers avoid zoning issues before permits.

Surrey Debuts eCheck for Faster Home Plan Reviews

Surrey, B.C. – Home designers in Surrey now have a powerful new ally in the building process. The City of Surrey has introduced eCheck, an innovative digital tool that quickly reviews residential building plans, helping designers spot zoning issues before they submit formal permit applications.

“This is a big leap forward in how we support home designers and applicants,” said Ron Gill, General Manager of Planning & Development. “By harnessing technology, we can speed up approvals, reduce bottlenecks, and make the permit process far more straightforward.”

How eCheck Streamlines Building Projects

The eCheck system is designed to save time, money, and frustration. Here’s how it helps:

  • Cuts down costly resubmissions
  • Ensures applications are accurate and complete
  • Speeds up residential permit timelines
  • Encourages collaboration between applicants and city staff

Joe Philbrook, Vice President of Customer at Archistar, added, “By automating compliance checks for new houseplex designs, we’re helping Surrey fast-track housing projects and support residents more efficiently.”

Phased Rollout Begins with Key Residential Zones

The City is introducing eCheck in stages. Initially, it’s available for:

  • Single-family homes
  • Coach houses
  • Garden suites
  • Duplexes
  • Houseplexes in R3 zones

Additional zones will be added in the coming months, ensuring designers and homeowners can benefit from faster, more precise plan reviews.

With eCheck, Surrey is taking a clear step toward modernizing residential development and making home building smoother for everyone involved.
