A man died after an overnight shooting at a Surrey home. Police arrested one suspect as homicide investigators begin a full investigation.

Late-Night Gunfire Sparks Homicide Probe

A quiet neighbourhood in Surrey turned into an active crime scene early Sunday morning. Police rushed to a home after reports of gunshots, and soon after, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers arrived quickly. They tried to help the victim right away. However, despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.

Now, investigators are working to learn exactly what happened.

Police Respond to 1:40 a.m. Call

According to the Surrey Police Service, officers received a report of gunfire at a home on Laurel Drive at about 1:40 a.m.

Soon after, police reached the house. Inside, they discovered a man who had been shot.

Officers gave first aid while waiting for paramedics. Shortly after, emergency crews arrived. Sadly, the victim could not be saved.

Suspect Arrested at the Scene

Meanwhile, police quickly secured the property. During the response, officers arrested a man at the home.

He remains in police custody.

So far, police have not released details about the suspect or the victim. Investigators say they are still gathering facts.

Homicide Team Takes Over the Case

Because the shooting resulted in a death, the case has now been handed to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

This specialized unit investigates suspicious deaths across the Lower Mainland. Detectives will now examine evidence, speak with witnesses, and determine what led to the shooting.

For now, authorities say the investigation is in its early stages. Therefore, more information will likely be shared once detectives confirm the details.
