Surrey police discover bullet damage at closed car wash on Aug. 18. Investigation underway; motive unclear amid local business extortion concerns.

Discovery During Routine Patrol

On Monday night, August 18, shortly after 11 p.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers on patrol noticed bullet holes at a car wash business near 128 Street and 84 Avenue. The discovery was made without any prior report from the business, according to SPS.

Business Closed, No Injuries Reported

The business was closed at the time, and no employees or customers were present. Officers confirmed that there were no injuries. The damage was noted during their patrol, highlighting the vigilance of frontline officers.

Extortion Threats Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating whether the shooting is connected to recent extortion attempts targeting Surrey’s South Asian business community. Motive remains unclear, and SPS cautions that it is too early to draw definitive links.

Police Investigation Launched

The SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) has assumed control of the case. Investigators are working to determine how and why the shots were fired, while collecting evidence from the scene.

Community Safety Concerns

This incident has raised concerns among local business owners, particularly in areas that have experienced prior threats. SPS urges community members to report suspicious activity and remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
