Community Unites to Clean White Rock Shoreline

More than 200 pounds of litter was removed from the White Rock shoreline on August 17, thanks to dedicated volunteers. The cleanup marked the second community-led effort this summer, reinforcing the power of collective action in protecting the local environment.

A Record-Breaking Cleanup

Organized by the Lower Mainland Green Team, alongside Green Teams Canada and the City of White Rock, the event drew 40 enthusiastic participants. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds—from retirees to students and families—joined hands for this environmental cause. Their combined effort collected a “record-breaking” 206 pounds of waste. With July’s cleanup included, the two events brought the summer total to an impressive 325 pounds of litter removed.

What Was Collected

Volunteers split into three groups, covering the beach, promenade, and sidewalks. The haul was striking—over 600 cigarette butts, food wrappers, bottles, shoes, tarps, and even parts of a discarded barbecue. Each item removed represented a step toward a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming shoreline for residents and visitors.

Strengthening Community Stewardship

The cleanup is part of the Lower Mainland Green Team’s mission to foster healthy, connected, and resilient communities through hands-on environmental stewardship. Their work demonstrates that small, consistent efforts can deliver meaningful change for both nature and people.

Looking Ahead

Organizers confirmed that more community cleanups are planned for White Rock this fall. Dates and details will be announced on the team’s events page at meetup.com, encouraging more locals to join and make a difference.
