Hawk Found and Saved Because of Attentive Dog

A Sunday walk in a British Columbia park took an unexpected turn when a local dog noticed something unusual on the ground. What looked like a routine stroll became the start of a rescue for a tiny hawk in trouble.

Dog’s Discovery Leads to Hawk Rescue

While out with its owner, a well-trained dog stopped and focused on a spot in the underbrush. The owner checked and found a small hawk that was clearly injured and unable to fly. Recognizing something was wrong, they called for help rather than leaving the bird behind.

Wildlife Branch Steps In to Help

Once contacted, wildlife responders from the British Columbia Wildlife Rescue team arrived and carefully assessed the hawk’s condition. The hawk was weak and needed immediate attention, so the team took it in to provide medical care and a safe place to recover.

According to rescuers, without the dog’s alert behaviour, the hawk may have gone unnoticed much longer, reducing its chances of survival.

After examination and treatment, the hawk was placed in a rehabilitation setting where it can rest and regain strength. Rescuers say the bird’s outlook is promising but will need time and continued care before it can return to the wild.

Community volunteers and wildlife rehabilitators expressed gratitude for the team effort, saying moments like this highlight how people and animals can look out for each other.
