British Columbians can now access court registry assistance without stepping inside a courthouse, as the province’s new virtual registry service has officially gone live across B.C.

The digital service allows members of the public to speak directly with court registry staff through secure video calls or phone connections. Designed to make court services easier to reach, the system operates through a single, provincewide queue, removing the need to contact individual court locations.

Using the virtual counter, residents can receive real-time help with a range of legal matters, including family law, civil cases, small claims, and criminal proceedings. Registry staff are available to explain procedural next steps, help interpret court correspondence and orders, and guide users through required forms and online records.

The province says the service is intended to support people who face challenges attending court registries in person, whether due to distance, mobility issues, work schedules, or caregiving responsibilities. By offering remote access, the justice system aims to become more flexible and responsive to modern needs.

Initially introduced as a pilot project last year, the virtual counter has now been expanded provincewide following positive feedback and increased demand for remote public services. Officials describe the initiative as part of a broader effort to modernize access to justice and reduce unnecessary barriers for residents across British Columbia.

For many users, the virtual counter functions as an online front desk—providing guidance, clarity, and support without the wait times or travel typically associated with courthouse visits.
