Four B.C. snowboarders bike 1,350 km to Alaska in a daring adventure film that blends grit, friendship, and untouched powder. Watch it free online.

From B.C. Backroads to Alaskan Peaks

First, imagine pedalling for weeks through snow, wind, and silence. Then, picture doing it with a snowboard strapped to your bike. That is exactly what four Revelstoke riders did. Now, their story hits screens around the world.

Moreover, Without a Pedal: A Bicycle Film about Snowboarding follows Johan Rosen, Nick Khattar, Garrett Warnick, and Colin Watt as they cycle 1,350 kilometres from Terrace, B.C., to Haines, Alaska. The film drops online Friday, Dec. 19, and promises raw adventure from the very first frame.

A Gruelling Ride with No Easy Days

Meanwhile, the journey itself was anything but smooth. The crew rode as much as 100 kilometres a day. At the same time, freezing winds cut across narrow highways where semi-trucks roared past.

Additionally, the riders faced steep climbs that added up to more elevation than Mount Everest. Because of tight timing, they took only one rest day during three relentless weeks.

“We pushed too hard,” Rosen admitted. “Even 80 kilometres felt brutal.” Still, they kept moving north.

Snowboards, Storms, and Serious Risk

After that, the bikes gave way to boards. Once in Alaska, the team headed straight into remote backcountry terrain. Consequently, they chased fresh powder while managing serious avalanche risk.

However, not everyone made it to the end. In the end, only three riders reached Haines. The setbacks, though, only deepened the story.

As the trailer warns, “This is not the time or place to do whatever we’re about to do.”

More Than a Film About Sport

Beyond action, the film dives into history and friendship. It explores the lands the group crossed. It also tracks the emotional weight of isolation and doubt.

Furthermore, the film continues a story that began with Without a Paddle, their 2022 canoe-based snowboarding film. That earlier project earned praise for its heart and honesty. Therefore, expectations for this sequel soared.

Global Buzz and a Homegrown Celebration

After more than a year of editing 70 hours of footage, Rosen and Khattar premiered the film in early 2025. Soon after, it toured international festivals. As a result, it earned over a dozen nominations across Europe and South America.

Finally, the film returned home. A sold-out screening at Revelstoke’s Roxy Theatre drew loud cheers and glowing reactions. Now, it goes free online for everyone.

Redefining What an “Expedition” Means

Most importantly, the filmmakers hope to change how people view adventure. Rosen believes expeditions should feel possible, not elite.

“Anyone can do something meaningful outdoors,” he said. Whether it is a paddle, a bike ride, or a small personal challenge, adventure belongs to everyone.

Therefore, these self-described “hillbilly expeditions” aim to inspire others to try.

Friends First, Filmmakers Second

Rosen and Khattar met more than a decade ago in Revelstoke. Since then, they have filmed almost everything together. As a result, their bond anchors the film.

“We started filming instantly,” Rosen said. “We’ve been tight ever since.”

In the end, Without a Pedal is not just about snowboarding. Instead, it is about pushing limits, laughing through mistakes, and finding freedom the hard way.
