Delta police arrest man after late-night boom lift theft and joyride through Tsawwassen streets, causing damage before fleeing into cornfield.

Late-Night Disturbance in Tsawwassen

A man has been arrested following a late-night boom lift theft and erratic joyride through Tsawwassen on September 7, according to Delta Police Department (DPD). The incident, which began as a break-and-enter at a Southlands construction site, ended with significant property damage and a dramatic foot chase.

Vehicle Taken from Construction Site

Around 11:57 p.m., police received reports of a heavy boom lift being driven dangerously through residential streets. Witnesses said the vehicle struck street signs and damaged property before the driver approached residents for directions to a liquor store.

Search Leads to Cornfield Arrest

The suspect abandoned the boom lift and fled on foot into a nearby cornfield. DPD patrol officers, aided by the Lower Mainland District Police Dog Service and a drone unit, established a containment perimeter. The man was located and taken into custody without injury to the public.

Charges and Court Appearance

According to police, the man faces charges of breaking and entering, theft over $5,000, and mischief. He has been released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

Community and Police Response Praised

The boom lift was returned to the construction site intact. DPD media relations officer Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley credited quick-thinking residents and swift police action for preventing further danger. “Thanks to the quick thinking of community members who called this in, and the swift response of our frontline officers, this dangerous situation was brought to a safe conclusion,” Whiteley said.
