B.C. actor Dominic Fox charms viewers as Netflix’s newest “chief elf,” jumping from vacation to spotlight in the holiday hit My Secret Santa.
A Holiday Break That Turned Into a Big Break
Dominic Fox was on a simple vacation, yet his phone buzzed, and everything shifted. He got an urgent call to audition for My Secret Santa, and the timing felt wild and wonderful. The Netflix holiday movie now sits in Canada’s Top 10, and Fox, who grew up in Langford, is suddenly part of the buzz. He started acting at age 11, and he graduated from the Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2024, so this moment felt earned and exciting.
A Chief Elf With a Big Smile
Fox plays Jimmy, the chief elf, and his first feature-film role feels warm, bright, and fun. The movie follows Taylor, a single mom who loses her job and, because she needs work, disguises herself as an old man to land the resort’s Santa job. Things get messy, yet sweet, when the manager starts to doubt her and she falls for the owner’s son. The plot moves fast, and Fox adds charm in every scene.
An Audition With a Onesie and a Leap of Faith
Fox had no elf costume on vacation, but he still pushed ahead. He borrowed his sister’s cozy onesie, and then he stepped into an online audition with hope and humor. That bold choice worked, and he won the role beside stars like Alexandra Breckenridge of Virgin River and Ryan Eggold of New Amsterdam. He said the experience felt unique and rich, and he learned a lot from the cast and crew.
Filming at Home and Growing His Craft
The movie was filmed mostly in British Columbia, so Fox stayed close to home while he sharpened his skills. He told Victoria News that he felt thrilled to see the film soar on Netflix. Before this project, he showed up in The Vince Staples Show on Netflix, and he also worked on short films and with Black Wing Theatre Company. He writes, he makes music, and he has more screen work coming soon.

A Message for Local Dreamers
Fox shared simple advice for actors on Vancouver Island. He said, “Trust yourself. Put yourself out there and be yourself.” He added that the island’s film scene is booming, and opportunities grow every day, so now is a great time to try.
