Collision on Highway 1 Sends Vehicle Off Road

A busy stretch of Highway 1 in Abbotsford saw a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon when a passenger car lost control and slammed into a semi-truck, forcing the larger vehicle off the road and into nearby terrain, police say.

What Happened on the Highway

Emergency crews were called to eastbound Highway 1 near the Peardonville Road overpass at about 4:17 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a car and a semi-truck. The Abbotsford Police Department confirmed that the passenger vehicle struck the truck, causing the semi to veer off the highway.

Injuries and Response

A single person was taken to hospital following the collision, but police describe the injuries as minor. Despite the impact, both eastbound lanes of Highway 1 remained open, and there were no major closures.

Cleanup and Traffic

Crews worked into the evening to clear debris from the scene and ensure the roadway was safe for drivers. Police said that although traffic continued to flow, motorists should still expect some delays near the Peardonville Road overpass because of cleanup efforts.

Initial Police Observations

Early indications from investigators suggest the passenger vehicle may have lost control before colliding with the semi, although authorities have not publicly confirmed specific causes like speed or weather factors. Police continue to review the crash circumstances as part of their ongoing response.
