Investigation Underway After Deadly Snowmobile Collision

A backcountry outing in Silver Star Provincial Park ended tragically late last year when a snowmobile struck a stationary vehicle and the rider died from their injuries. Local RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are now working to understand exactly how the accident unfolded.

Details Emerge About December Incident

The collision occurred on December 28, 2025, around 12:45 p.m. in the parking area near Aberdeen Summit Road and Sovereign Lake Road, according to police. Mounties from the Vernon North Okanagan detachment were dispatched after a report that a snowmobile had collided with a vehicle that wasn’t in motion. Despite on-scene efforts by first responders, the rider who was alone on the snowmobile suffered fatal injuries and could not be revived.

Coroner’s Office Investigates Cause

The B.C. Coroners Service is handling a parallel inquiry to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the death. Its review will delve into factors such as environmental conditions, equipment status and timing to offer a clearer picture of what led to the fatal crash. As of now, authorities have not released further specifics on the victim’s identity or contributing factors in the collision.

Officials Hold Details Close

At this stage, neither the RCMP nor the Coroners Service has provided deeper information on the investigation’s progress. Residents and recreational users of Silver Star Provincial Park, popular in winter for snowmobiling and other snow sports, are reminded to exercise caution in parking areas and trails, especially when vehicles and snow machines share spaces.
