23 years of giving from Fraser Heights students
Fraser Heights students Surrey Christmas Bureau partnership reached a big milestone on December 1. The secondary school community celebrated 23 years of backing the charity with handcrafted toys and cash donations. This year, volunteers delivered more than 100 wooden toys and contributed $1,450 to support the bureau’s work with local families.
The project lives in the school’s shop program. Students sign up on their own time, not for grades or credit. They design and build toys for children across Surrey, then see those creations head straight into the Surrey Christmas Bureau’s toy room.
Community project built in the school shop
Shop teacher Martin Lim leads the Fraser Heights students Surrey Christmas Bureau effort. He says the work only happens because many partners pull together. Local businesses donate lumber and other materials. Staff stay late in the shop to cut, sand and paint. Volunteers help with finishing touches and delivery.
“For 23 years, this has truly been a community project,” Lim tells the school district. He notes that every toy reflects hours of patient work, and that families recognize the care when they receive them. The project has become a point of pride for Fraser Heights and for the neighbourhood.
New wooden tree fundraiser adds support
This season, the school added a new twist: a wooden tree fundraiser. Staff and community members who gave $20 to the Surrey Christmas Bureau received a hand‑crafted wooden tree made in the shop. The idea raised extra money and gave donors a keepsake that shows what Fraser Heights students can create.
District leaders praised the Fraser Heights students Surrey Christmas Bureau initiative. Board chair Gary Tymoschuk said the project shows “the heart of Surrey,” with students using their skills for good, businesses backing them up and families joining in. He also reminded the community that 23 years of steady support is something everyone can feel proud of.
How the Surrey Christmas Bureau helps families
The Surrey Christmas Bureau uses donations from Fraser Heights and many others to provide toys and holiday hampers for low‑income families across the city. The goal is simple: make sure every child can enjoy a joyful and memorable holiday season, no matter their family’s income.
