Enjoy free holiday skating in Surrey with a festive outdoor rink, cozy fire pits, rentals, dining, and family-friendly fun at Civic Plaza and Cloverdale.

A Winter Surprise Right in the Heart of Surrey

If you are looking for a simple way to feel the holiday magic, Surrey has you covered. This season, the city is rolling out not one, but two festive skating experiences that turn ordinary winter days into memorable moments. Best of all, one of them lets you skate for free.

Free Skating Brings Civic Plaza to Life

Right outside Surrey City Hall, a temporary outdoor rink now sparkles under a massive tent at Surrey Civic Plaza. Since Dec. 1, families, friends, and couples have been gliding across real ice in a setting that feels straight out of a holiday movie.

The 4,000-square-foot rink features concert-style lighting, cheerful music, decorated Christmas trees, and seasonal décor. Meanwhile, cozy Adirondack chairs circle glowing fire pits, while picnic tables invite visitors to linger, play games, and warm up between laps. A café nearby keeps hot drinks close at hand, which makes staying longer even easier.

Skating runs daily from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. However, hours shorten to 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31, and Jan. 1. The rink stays open until mid-February, giving plenty of chances to enjoy the ice.

Rentals, Wristbands, and Group Bookings Made Simple

Although skating is free, skate rentals cost $5 per pair. Therefore, bringing your own skates can save both time and money. To manage capacity, skaters must pick up a wristband at the skate shop, with time slots clearly posted at the rink.

Schools can book rink time on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. At the same time, private groups can reserve Saturday mornings. For full details, visitors can check surrey.ca/plazaskating.

Turn Skating Into a Full Night Out

After skating, the fun does not have to end. Just steps away, Dominion Bar + Kitchen inside the Civic Hotel offers the perfect place to refuel. The restaurant stays open until 9 p.m. from Dec. 23 to 25. In addition, a chef-prepared turkey dinner is available on Christmas Day until 9 p.m. and again on Boxing Day until 6 p.m.

Reservations and menus are available at dominionkitchen.com, or by calling 604-330-0229.

Winter Ice Palace Returns to Cloverdale

Meanwhile, another holiday favorite has also made its return. The annual Winter Ice Palace is back at Cloverdale Arena from Dec. 13 to Jan. 4. Festive lights, colorful decorations, and seasonal music transform the arena into a classic winter wonderland.

“This popular, traditional event is an unforgettable skating experience and is the perfect way to spend time with your loved ones during this holiday season,” the City of Surrey shared online.

Admission costs $5, while skate rentals are $3.50. Helmets are available for $1.75. Since demand stays high, bringing your own gear is strongly encouraged.

Plan Ahead Before You Lace Up

To keep sessions smooth, early registration opens 72 hours before each skating time. Skaters must sign up at least one hour in advance to secure a spot. Registration details are available at surrey.ca/wintericepalace or by calling 604-501-5100.

Cloverdale Arena is located at 6090 176 St.
