Surrey’s Humuzza has captured his second Canadian dance championship, earning a spot at the upcoming Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals in Los Angeles.
On Sept. 5, the 22-year-old wowed a packed crowd at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom, where 16 top street dancers battled for the title. Known for his electric popping style, Humuzza’s performance drew thunderous applause as fans voted him champion.
This victory marks his second national win, after representing Canada at the 2022 world finals in Johannesburg, South Africa. There, he placed an impressive fourth against global talent.
Reflecting on the Vancouver competition, Humuzza shared his excitement. “Everything from the music to the energy of the crowd made it unforgettable. My only goal was to have fun and be myself unapologetically. I achieved that—and took home the win.”
Unlike many competitors, Humuzza advanced directly to nationals as an event ambassador, bypassing qualifiers. He noted the event’s unique atmosphere where the audience decides the outcome.
“It’s one of the best crowds I’ve ever danced for,” he explained. “The positivity, the energy—it’s always incredible.”
Now, his focus shifts to Los Angeles this fall, where the finals will be staged at the NBA Clippers’ Intuit Dome arena. “Performing in front of thousands in that space will be surreal,” he said. “I can’t wait to experience it.”
For nearly eight years, Humuzza has honed his craft, starting at Sullivan Heights Secondary before gaining national recognition. He has also appeared on Canada’s Got Talent and transitioned into acting, with roles on Fire Country and Tracker.
“Dance is my life—every day, all year,” he said. “But acting is also a passion. I love combining both forms of art because they share the same energy and creativity.”
The Vancouver nationals featured diverse talent, including Bibz, Nfinite, Isaiah Peck, Chantelle Mostacho, Prince Django, C.A.L.M., Professor WORD, Sunny, Romy, Kayla, Rahmane, King Mars, Jamal, Rajan, and Sleepless. Still, Humuzza’s charisma and technique set him apart as Canada’s champion once again.
