Dive into Surrey’s lively Little Mermaid panto, packed with laughs, music, and holiday magic from Dec. 19–28 at Surrey Arts Centre.

Get ready to dive right in, because Surrey is about to shimmer with undersea magic. And yes, the excitement feels instant, lively, and absolutely irresistible. So, as the holidays roll in, the Royal Canadian Theatre Company brings a bold new wave of cheer with its 2025 panto, The Little Mermaid. And with every moment building toward big laughs, bright songs, and all-out silliness, the show promises a holiday treat families can enjoy together.

A Holiday Show That Soars With Energy

The curtain lifts on Friday, Dec. 19, at Surrey Arts Centre, and the fun flows straight through Dec. 28. And with eight chances to catch the show, holiday plans feel easier than ever. Since panto traditions thrive on audience cheers, loud laughter, and quick banter, the whole experience feels warm, welcoming, and thrilling from start to finish.

Director Kerri Norris leads the charge, and writer Crystal Weltzin packs the script with rapid-fire jokes and zippy moments. So every scene moves fast, and every punchline lands with sparkle. And because the tale celebrates courage, joy, and chasing dreams, the story feels bright and hopeful, too.

Colourful Characters and Nonstop Laughs

A parade of quirky characters splashes across the stage. Ariel leads the adventure, but Chef Phishandchips (the dame) whirls in with big energy. Then Flounder, Bisque, Lord Leviathan, Madam Mermaid, Debris, Detritus, King Triton, and even more characters keep things rolling with fun surprises. And since classic British panto invites loud boos for villains and big cheers for heroes, the reactions make the whole show feel interactive.

The Royal Canadian Theatre Company continues its long-running tradition in both Surrey and New Westminster, and more shows run Jan. 2–4 at Massey Theatre. So the festive fun does not stop after December and rolls right into the new year.

Music, Dance, and Big-Hearted Moments

The two-hour show is billed as a wild, hilarious, sing-along ride. Tickets begin at $33.25 on purchase.surrey.ca, and calling 604-501-5580 works, too. And because the cast features 36 performers some fresh faces and some returning favourites the stage feels full of life in every scene.

Jodie Aguinaldo steps in as Ariel, Stephen Elcheshen brings big comedic charm as the dame, and Weltzin plays a striking Ursula. Plus, choreographer Illya Muji energizes every dance moment. Surrey musician Argel Monte de Ramos adds heart with a duet for Ariel and Eric. And since comedy thrives on familiar tunes, playful parodies of “Bad to the Bone,” “Splish Splash,” and others keep the beat upbeat.

The Surrey-based cast includes Bir Btaalvi, Josephine Johnson, Stephen Goodfellow-Boomer, Zoah Haveliwalla, Juliet Logan, Tallya Lalonde, Amanda Smith-Weston, Teru Widman, Michael Widman, Natalia Buckland, Amelia Vanderark, Alyesha Nawaz and Melina Rehlan. So the production highlights local talent while delivering huge entertainment value.

Inclusive Performances for Every Audience

A special “relaxed” performance happens Dec. 27 for $18.25 per ticket. And this version helps guests who may experience physical, mental, or behavioral challenges by reducing stress moments. Performers introduce themselves before the show, explain anything that may feel intense, and create a calm, friendly environment. So everyone can enjoy the magic together without worry.

Meanwhile, White Rock Players’ Club keeps spirits high with The Snow Queen Panto at Oceana Parc Playhouse until Dec. 28. And since the show bursts with youthful humor, cheeky charm, and light satire, it offers a brilliant escape from everyday stress.
