Tourism Sites Begin Welcoming Visitors Again

Just one day after evacuation orders were lifted in Abbotsford and surrounding communities, a couple of well-known Lower Mainland tourism businesses have announced plans to reopen following recent flood disruption. The Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre started welcoming guests again on December 18, even while parts of the venue continue repairs, and Castle Fun Park has set a reopening date later this month.

Clarion Hotel Back in Business

The Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre along Highway 1 in Abbotsford reopened its hotel operations on December 18 after floodwaters receded and cleanup progressed. Management said the conference centre portion of the facility suffered more extensive damage and still requires a few more days of work before it can fully reopen. Hotel staff and restoration teams are working together to prepare the space safely and ensure it is ready for upcoming events.

Castle Fun Park Plans Boxing Day Return

Castle Fun Park, a popular family destination that offers arcade games, bumper cars and go-karts, announced it will resume operations on December 26. The park was also hard hit by flooding, but this time the perimeter wall and flood mitigation measures installed after the 2021 floods helped protect against more severe damage. The owner said volunteers and staff used sump pumps and other tools to manage high water levels, resulting in only minor impacts that can be fixed ahead of the planned reopening.

Tourism Abbotsford Praises Quick Recovery

Tourism Abbotsford’s executive director expressed appreciation for the speed at which local tourism partners began reopening. After a second major flood in four years, she said the quick response from businesses and the community shows resilience and commitment to restoring attractions for visitors and locals alike.

What It Means for Visitors and the Region

With these reopenings, visitors and residents can start planning outings again in the Abbotsford area and Lower Mainland while recovery continues. Businesses that were closed due to flooding are eager to welcome patrons back, and reopening announcements provide a hopeful sign of progress after recent weather challenges.
